Description: At European contact Bare Island was associated with the Gweagal and Kameygal Aboriginal groups and referred to by Captain Cook as a “small bare island”. Since those early times, the island has experienced a variety of uses and recognitions, from being a late nineteenth century coastal defence site, a veterans home, and site location for the film Mission Impossible 2.
